MUSEUMS IN THE GARDEN – gardens and museums

The Spring Festival of Museums was organised for the 22nd time on 20-21 May 2017 by the Hungarian National Museum. This unique cultural festival attracts almost 40 000 visitors annually and provides an opportunity for more than 120 Hungarian museums to present their collections. The team of Danube Museum joined in the event as well. In the most prestigious event of Hungarian museums, the participants' tents and programs occupied the Museum Garden, their pieces of art was displayed in the Treasure Alley in the building of National Museum, while walking down the Knowledge Alley visitors could test their knowledge in the fields of arts, literature and nature. This year the festival was enhanced by music groups such as: KEREKES BAND, VODKU, Lóci Játszik, Group'n'Swing, Makám and many more.

This year the Hungarian National Museum focused on the environmental protection, maintenance and preservation of urban greenery, recycling and environmentally conscious lifestyle related to the ongoing reconstruction of the Museum Garden. The Danube Museum is at the forefront of deepening the environmentally conscious approach, and this year's theme serves the kind of playful propagative educational work they do all year round. They have prepared for the event for months, and they have brought lots of new games to the venue, keeping in mind the slogan of this year's event. Visitors could watch the models by walking on silky green grass, they could learn about the wildlife around us through play, and the craftsman workshops were popular among children and adults as well.

As well as in previous years the event linked to the ICOM World Museum Day, the main topic in 2017: "Museums and the concealed history - can the unspeakable be said?" However, this year the Hungarian museum field analysed the sometimes difficult, on the other hand simple relationship of humankind and its environment. In the spirit of contested history, one could commemorate what the trees of Museum Garden keep still quiet about.
