Spring inland protection summary 18/05/18

2018. május 22., kedd 09:52

In the first half of 2018, in the area of ??the South-Transdanubian Water Management Directorate, on the Danube inland water protection section, twice the flood protection of the South Lake Balaton was required to order the 1st level of inland water protection.
From January 22 to February 5, it was assigned a 1st degree of inland water protection at the South Lake Balaton flood protection section because of the rainfall and the higher water levels in Lake Balaton. The five pumping stations transferred over 7,335,000 m3 of water to Lake Balaton from the flooded 130 hectares area every 12 hours a day.
The water discharge of Lake Balaton started on February 7th at 125 cm water level. In the fall of 70-80 mm in February, another 100-110 mm in March contributed to the stagnation of the flooded areas and to the further leveling of the Balaton.

On 5th March, our Directorate assigned the first degree of inland water protection at the Gerechát’s and Vizslak’s pumping stations on the Danube inland protection section. The order was issued on March 9 in the flood protection section of the South Lake Balaton. Due to the heavy precipitation, the water level of the lake exceeded 135 cm, despite the water leakage. The amount of water transferred by the pumping stations exceeded 6 million m3. After the rainy March, the month of April proved to be significantly warmer and drier, which, in addition to pumping, helped to reduce flooding. On the Danube inland protection section, the abolition was completed on April 6th. The pumps were shut down one week later on 13 April. Following the completion of the repairs carried out for the operational safety of the Zamárdi’s pumping station, on 9 May, at the last pumping station the inland water protection was terminated.
