The water sector, such as the South-Transdanubian Water Management Directorate has given high priority to the cooperation with the Faculty of Water Sciences National University of Public Service. At the end of November, graduate students of civil engineering at the Faculty of Water Sciences made a visit -regarding the subject of settlement and region development- to the building site of Magyarszéki reservoir that is built in the framework of project investment of South-Transdanubian Water Management Directorate. The students’ team was lead by dr. László Balatonyi assistant lecturer and this time water engineering works in the investment, the reasons for the reservoir and related technical parts were presented by Károly Polgár as head of department - South-Transdanubian Water Management Directorate. In relation to the investment, the purpose of the message that was transmitted to the students is that the water sector assesses the social needs and evaluates them by defining the future development plans besides considering the available resources.

Sectoral goal is to develop the professional bases of a differentiated flood control system by 2020, which would objectively prioritize developments based on the property to be protected or cultural and human values. The planned developments are almost in all cases related to settlements subsequently they are not for the sake of themselves, thus opportunities are provided for settlements and the Hungarian population with the purpose that further development opportunities (e.g. minimizing flood risks) would be implemented.
