Events ArchiveThe General Directorate of Water Management (OVF) held a technical conference on the World Day to Combat Desertification, 17th June 2015. The international focus was on “sustainable land management and food safety” this year.
Following the opening of the event by Mr Balázs Somlyódy, Director – General of OVF, the conference was chaired by Mr Gábor Kolossváry, Head of Department and included presentations on concerning and current topics such as:
- Strategic issues of water management (Dr. József Váradi, Chairman, ‘OVF TT’);
- The impact of land use on the desertification processes (Dr. Csaba Gyuricza, Chairman, “MVH”);
- Drought, climatic instability and plants’ access to water (Dr. Zoltán Varga-Haszonits, Academician of ‘MTA’ and Dr. Zoltán Varga, Associate Professor, “NYmE-MÉK”);
- Water cycle of the soil and its impact on agricultural production (Dr. Rezső Schmidt, Professor, Dean; Dr. Gábor Koltai, Senior Researcher Fellow, “NYmE-MÉK” and Dr. Kálmán Rajkai, “MTA ATK TAKI”);
- The link between irrigation and soil (Dr. Árpád Tóth, Managing Director, “Aquarex ’96 Kft.”);
- The role of cultivation in maintaining productivity and food safety (Dr. Márta Birkás, Academician of ‘MTA’, “SzIE”);
