World Water Day 22 March 2020 - Water and climate change World Water Day – 22 March

2020. március 24., kedd 13:37

World Water Day is an event held on March 22 each year. Its purpose is to raise awareness of the importance of clean and freshwater to be accessible and available for all and to highlight the vulnerability and actual exposure of freshwater resources and supplies to danger. World Water Day was first formally proposed by the United Nations General Assembly following the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 and one year later in 1993, it was held for the first time.

This year's World Water Day focuses on climate change, with the slogan: WATER AND CLIMATE CHANGE.

On this occasion, the Ceremony of World Water Day was planned to be held on Wednesday March 25, 2020 by the South-Transdanubian Water Management Directorate and the Hungarian Hydrological Society’s Territorial Organizations of County Baranya and Somogy in Barcs County Somogy. Creative competitions were launched by the above mentioned three organizations targeting kindergarten groups and students attending elementary schools, high schools or higher education institutions in line with the theme of "Water and Climate Change" and the slogan of "Everyone has a role to play".

Our World Water Day celebration: Exhibition vernissage at Dráva Museum in Barcs and the professional conference in the Celebration Hall – Municipality of Barcs will be postponed due to prevention of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The creative competition’s announcement of the results was planned to be organized for Monday, March 9 at 9 am at Drava Museum in Barcs but it must have been postponed. However, the most successful works will be organized and exhibited at Drava Museum in Barcs at a later date. The prize-winning entries will be featured in the next issue of our official journal, as well as on our website (www.ddvizig.hu) and DDVIZIG's official facebook page (https: www.facebook.com/ddvizig/). The winners will receive their prizes by post, through schools and kindergartens.

New exhibition area is added on the first floor of Drava Museum, which will be opened to the public in the near future. The new exhibit room is dedicated to the topic of water management and gives the opportunity to the South-Transdanubian Water Management Directorate to showcase its water management relics from the 1880s to the present. The collection contains tools relating to water management planning and designing, measurement, navigation and flood control activities; in addition to it shows documentation of our day-to-day operations. An interesting feature of the new exhibition is an interactive 3D relief map projected onto sand. During the projection, the surface of the sand comes to life and a live, moving map is created on an Augmented Reality (AR) desk, which can be formatted by visitors.

Professional presentations for World Water Day, focusing on "Water and Climate Change" will be available in digital format on our website (www.ddvizig.hu) and on our official facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ddvizig/).

Let’s call attention and raise awareness to responsible action and thinking with this year's World Water Day slogan: "Everyone has a role to play".
