Do unidentified culprits walk in the dark rooms of the museum at night? No one has seen anything, no trace was left. Their intent is unknown at this time, but it is absolutely certain that an artifact will disappear.

Kvassay-sirkert

Jenő Kvassay (18501919), a Hydraulic Engineer, had a significant role in the establishment and development of the Hungarian water management services. After his studies in Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Pest, he enrolled to the Hungarian Royal Economic Academy in Magyaróvár and then to the  École des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris where he studied Agriculture and Hydraulic Engineering. In 1878 he was appointed as a Hydraulic Engineer and got assigned for establishing the agricultural-water management services, the Civil Engineering Institute he had recommended earlier within the Agricultural Ministry. In 1880 he became the Director of the Institute. From 1891, as the Director of the National Hydraulic Engineering and Melioration Bureau (also known as ‘National Hydraulic Engineering Directorate’ from 1899), he held responsibility for the unified management of the water-sector administration. Kvassay resigned from this position in 1918. His name is to be mentioned when speaking about the legislation of the Water Act (Article No. 1885:XXIII.), as well as the establishment of the National Fishing Inspectorate and the Public Health Engineering Services. His bibliographic work in water management, river regulation and agricultural-based hydraulic engineering is also of particular importance.  Through about three decades while being the head of the water management services, he added a new chapter to the history of Hydraulic Engineering in Hungary. Kvassay died in Budapest on 6th June 1919, his final resting place is in the settlement of ‘Őrbottyán’.

Jenő Kvassay’s name is inseparable from the plans that are included in the development of the Hungarian water management sector for the 2014-2020 period which is required for the future of water management services.

As a gesture of respect, the General Directorate of Water Management established the ‘Kvassay’ Commemoration Committee, which intends to renovate the ‘Kvassay’ graveyard located in ‘Őrbottyán’ through calling for public contribution. The inauguration of the graveyard will take place on 5th June 2015, on the 165th anniversary of Kvassay’s birth.

Please transfer your donation to the following bank account:
Account Holder: Kvassay Alapítvány
Account Number: 66000035-11097277

The Commemoration Committee places all documents linked to the public donation including the names of the donors in the Hungarian Environment Protection and Water management Museum. Should donations exceed the cost of renovation of the graveyard, they will be used for the celebration of the 165th anniversary and to cherish the memory of Family Kvassay.

The Commemoration Committee is looking forward to receiving donations from those in agreement with the initiation.
