22nd Conference on the Subsurface Waters 17/04/15

The 22nd Conference on the Subsurface Waters was held in Siófok from 8th to 9th April 2015. Krisztina Mender and Ildikó Sághiné Juhász,  the colleagues of the Water Protection and Watershed Management Department dealing with subsurface water management, attended the conference on behalf of the South-Transdanubian Water Management Directorate.  During the two-day event several issues were presented and discussed on such as the re-allocation of water management and water protection administrative tasks; the qualitative and quantitative protection of subsurface water bodies; the survey of karst systems in the Transdanubian Mountains and in the region of Bükk; the sustainable use of thermal water wells. In addition, the participants talked about Project ‘NATÉR’ (National Adaptation Geo-information system) within the framework of Programme ‘Adaptation to Climate Change’ financed by the European Economic Area (EEA) Grant that has been established by Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway.  

The 25 presentations of the 5 topics were followed by debates and amendments. During the breaks the topical issues got highlighted and technical conciliations took place with respect to watershed management tasks.

In a separate meeting room there was a poster exhibition held to present the research results of Project ‘KÚTFŐ’ within the Programme ‘TÁMOP’ in Miskolc together with a display of all the images submitted for the 9th Photoposter about the Water Competition 2015. Krisztina Mender’s work titled ‘Aix-en-Provence, the town of fountains’ got 3rd in the Category MOOD.

The winner of the Silver Cup 2015 is Dr János Szanyi, the Senior Research Fellow of the Department of Mineralogy, Geochemistry and Petrology, Faculty of Geography and Geology at the University of Szeged. The title is awarded to those individuals who have made an outstanding effort for the subsurface waters the previous year.  The thirty-five winners of the Silver Cup since 1998 include Pál Liebe, Dr. József Juhász, György Kumánovics, Zoltán Simonffy, János Urbancsek, Zsuzsa Buzás, Vera Horváth, Ágnes Tahy and Károly Ötvös.
