The South-Transdanubian Water Management Directorate is committed to waste collection and determined to make an end to illegal dumping in its operational area December 1, 2020

2020. december 03., csütörtök 12:41

In recent months, a large-scale environmental clean-up and garbage collection campaign was launched in the operational area of the South-Transdanubian Water Management Directorate by our staff members. On this occasion, an open event to the press was organized on November 13 (Friday) in the south part of Mohács, along the flood protection embankment of River Danube.

Director Zoltán Bencs said in the interview with Television Station City of Mohács “The environment and surroundings of 3200 km length of watercourses in the 10000 square kilometres operational area of the South-Transdanubian Water Management Directorate were cleaned.  For the storage and sorting of 350-400 cubic meters waste, which was collected from 15 sectors, 4 different temporary landfills have been set up, from where the already selected and sorted waste will be taken to an official landfill”.

With regard to the composition of the collected waste, it contains municipal waste, construction debris, plastic film and foils, tires, electronics and mixed waste.

Most of the collected waste includes, almost 100 cubic meters (about 100 tons) of cover film, which was used for agricultural cultivation and accumulated illegally in the high-water floodplain of River Drava in the vicinity of Lake Vájás. Before its transport, the collected waste will be temporarily stored, selected and sorted at a depot built in the yard of the Engineering District of Sellye, the department of the South-Transdanubian Water Management Directorate (DDVIZIG).

Waste was collected in an approximately 5 km section of River Drava and an 8 km section of River Kapos in the area of our ??operation, in addition to the location of Stream Orci, Stream Deseda, Stream Rinya, Western belt Canal, Keleti-Bozót Canal, Stream Kiskoppány, Stream Pécsi-víz, Baranya Canal, Stream Völgységi and the River Danube along the area of Mohács were also cleaned in the framework of the project.

Please do not litter signs were placed at the cleaned areas and sites in order to prohibit the dump of waste and rubbish. The cleaned sites and regions will be continuously patrolled by a guard service in order to preserve and protect these locations against littering and illegal dumping. We encourage the use of application WasteRadar and messages on illegal dumping and littering is still welcome.
