Nowadays there is a growing demand for active holidays in order to get acquainted with nature.  There has been a sharp rise in the number of tourists looking for nature’s assets as well as getting into contact with local inhabitants. Thus, the number of Hungarian people calling for ecotourism instead of luxurious holidays abroad has increased. Therefore, the traffic on waterways in the protected and specially protected areas of Danube-Dráva National Park is to be allowed and maintained in a well-regulated form, whilst the focus is to be kept on the protection of its natural assets. Present information is for an indefinite period; however, its modification can be initiated by both parties.

Locations, structures in the riverbed of Dráva endangering or obstructing waterway traffic:

In the surroundings of river regulation structures, especially near ‘T’ structures, cross dikes, transverse dikes and in the upstream and downstream face of longitudinal dikes there are depths and strong currents evolving. As a consequence these locations are highly dangerous and to be avoided. It is highly important to know that the above structures get under water and become invisible at water level exceeding 150 cm in Őrtilos and 200 cm in Barcs.

Currents are observed in the vicinity of reefs and logs quite frequently; they can get under water at high water levels so can cause damage to the body of boats, kayaks and canoes.

Spots and locations endangering traffic on River Dráva when water level is at 0 in Barcs:

reef between river km section 92-94 (region of Majlátpuszta)

reef between river km section 115-118 (region of Drávasztára and section upper Drávasztára)

reef at river km section 122 (region of Drávakeresztúr)

reef between river km section 142-143 (marly bank) (region of Drávatamási)

reef at river km section 158 (riverbed section above Barcs)

reef, log at river km section 172 (region of bridge in Pitomacsa)

reef, log between river km section 174-175 (region of Péterhida)
